WHY IV IRON THERAPY

When IV iron may be recommended

IV iron may be considered when iron levels are low and oral iron is not enough, not tolerated, or not absorbed well. A physician or prescribing provider must review bloodwork and determine whether IV iron is appropriate.

Your Care Journey

How the Process Works

Every infusion begins the same way with a proper clinical assessment and is tailored to your individual needs.

1

Referral and bloodwork

Your physician or prescribing provider confirms whether IV iron is appropriate and sends Aniyah Care your referral, prescription, and recent bloodwork.

2

Scheduling

Once your referral is received, our team contacts you to review next steps, confirm the clinic fee, and schedule your infusion appointment.

3

Your infusion appointment

A Registered Nurse starts your IV, administers the prescribed iron formulation, and monitors you throughout the appointment. Appointment length depends on the medication prescribed.

4

Post-infusion monitoring and follow-up

You are monitored after the infusion. A completion note can be sent to your referring provider, and follow-up bloodwork is usually arranged through your physician.

Physician-prescribed IV iron formulations

Aniyah Care administers physician-prescribed IV iron formulations, including:

Monoferric (Ferric Derisomaltose)

Venofer (Iron Sucrose)

Your Questions, Answered

Iron infusion, clearly explained

Everything you need to know before your appointment.

Yes. A physician or prescribing provider must determine whether IV iron is appropriate and provide a prescription/referral.

Most referrals include CBC, ferritin, and iron studies. Additional testing may be requested depending on health history.

There are usually two costs: the iron medication and the clinic infusion fee. Medication may be covered by insurance or drug benefits; the clinic fee is confirmed before booking.

The clinic administration fee is not typically covered by OHIP in private clinic settings. Medication coverage depends on the patient's insurance or drug plan.

Appointment length depends on the prescribed formulation; some appointments are shorter, others take several hours, including monitoring.

Most patients can resume normal activities after the monitoring period, unless their provider advises otherwise.

Possible effects include headache, nausea, muscle aches, dizziness, or temporary discomfort at the IV site. Serious reactions are rare but possible, which is why monitoring is part of the appointment.

This varies. Some patients notice improvement within days to weeks; others require follow-up testing and additional treatment depending on the cause of iron deficiency.

That depends on the formulation prescribed, iron levels, and the physician's treatment plan.

Your physician may repeat bloodwork several weeks after treatment to assess your response.
